In November 2020 Sandy Begbie, CEO of Scottish Financial Enterprise, published the Young Person’s Guarantee, No One Left Behind, which outlined a programme to support young people and ultimately guarantee them a place in education, training or employment within the next two years.

Giving Every Young Person the Chance to Succeed.
Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop has announced further details on how the Youth Guarantee will give young people the chance to succeed despite the economic impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19). Today’s announcement has confirmed additional investment for Developing the Young Workforce Regional Groups to support the delivery of the Youth Guarantee including strengthening our offer in the senior phase and ensuring those furthest from the Labour market can access the appropriate support.
The Scottish Government’s £60 million support for the guarantee, will ensure every young person has the opportunity of work, education or training, with £10 million additional funding for DYW.
Our Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Events are a series of four broadcasts which ran throughout the summer, which allowed parents, carers and guardians to hear about the things that matter to them right now. The events provided parents and carers with information about options and next steps for young people, including where they can go to make informed judgements to support their young person's next steps.
The final events in the DYW Skills Academy programme will be a series of live webinars “Up2U20” for young people from Monday 24th August to Friday 28th August.
The DYW Up2U episodes will include conversations and live Q & A with employers, young people and specialists from different pathways you can take. On Tuesday 4th August, Scottish Results day, DYW 21 regional groups supported the #NoWrongPath campaign.
#NoWrongPath is a social media movement which aims to provide inspiration and reassurance to young people receiving their results.
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) 21 regional groups launched an awareness campaign across Scotland which ran from the 1st - 5th June. The campaign showcased roles within the key sectors to make young people more aware of the types of jobs involved and what skills and qualities would be required.
We tapped into the energy of key workers to push this campaign forward and inspire the next generation. The campaign was promoted across social media platforms and featured a variety of sectors and job roles.
In the run up to the campaign we also encouraged educators and schools to become involved. Some designed their own key workers and others wrote a poem celebrating key workers.
Our young people in Scotland are the future of our workforce and this campaign helped to inspire them into roles that have proven to be invaluable in protecting us all in these unprecedented times.
On Thursday 23rd April 2020 Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) 21 regional groups worked together to inspire young people to consider a variety of careers when being home schooled and who better to do that than parents and guardians.
As many parents/guardians are juggling working from home and home schooling, we wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage anyone who can get involved with Bring your Child to Work Day (Home Edition!)
Involving young people in what their parents/guardians do during their work day gave young people an insight into the world of work and showcased the variety of careers on offer.
Representatives from Regional DYW Groups in Glasgow and Edinburgh, MidLothian & East along with representatives of the Scottish Government will be holding discussions with colleagues from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority later this month. The focus of these discussions will be an examination of the different approaches to establishing successful school and employer partnerships, as well as other aspects of the Fair Work agenda.
On Thursday 20th June Scottish Government will be hosting a breakfast event in London to showcase Developing the Young Workforce to employers who are headquartered in London and South East England who also have a business interest in Scotland. This exciting, new event will be an opportunity to showcase the value and impact of DYW in Scotland for employers.
We are looking for two businesses in Scotland who have a committed engagement with DYW all the way through to employing MAs, to attend on the day (ideally with one of their young employees) and speak about their experiences.
