Our 20 DYW Regional Groups already do a fantastic job of working with national and local employers and connecting them with educators to help bring the curriculum to life. We are mindful though, that not everyone has the prior experience of engaging in an education environment; perhaps the last time you were in a school was when you were at school yourself or attending a parent’s/carers evening for a young person! This is why we have re-designed our employer page to provide you with an improved user experience that better enables you to get started with DYW. Why & How The new DYW employer page starts with a short slideshow, presenting reasons why you should get involved, followed by a short summary of potential benefits that DYW activity can bring to your business or organisation. Once you have familiarised yourself with the benefits of working with young people, and there are many, check out how you can get involved. Activities are split into three categories to make it easier to identify how you can get started in a way that best suits you and your business or organisation, whether you have an hour, a day, or more time. Taking the next steps of making an offer to schools and delivering that first activity can be a little daunting, and you wouldn’t be the first person to wonder how to get it right. To support you with this part of your journey, we have created four ‘Get Started’ guides, focussing on the most popular asks of employer engagement activity from schools. These guides are embedded throughout the activity lists and can be downloaded or accessed by clicking on the activity name (if hyperlinked). Activities for which guides have been created include:
Short and easy to read, these guides give a brief insight to what each activity might look like, what to expect, alongside handy hints and tips to help you prepare for the activity and deliver on the day. It’s important to remember that whilst these guides are part of the picture and provide a foundation to get started, your DYW Regional Group are available to offer additional support and help you on the next stage of your DYW journey. What & Who After scrolling through the above sections, you should have a rough idea of why you want to get started with Developing the Young Workforce and how. This brings us to the next section which further breaks down what activities can be delivered, and to who. We have developed infographics to support you in gaining a better understanding of the different types of activity that suit young people at different ages and stages of the curriculum, including; Early Years-S1, S2-S3, S4-S6. The first infographic in this section provides suggested ideas for the focus or theme of activities which suit each age and stage. From here, use the arrows to navigate to the second graphic which outlines the time commitment for each activity and, therefore, can help with future engagement planning. In case you would like to save or share this information, we have combined both infographics into one image which is available to download from the page. Preview below: By using the arrows to navigate through the slides, you will also find text-only versions which break down the focus and types of activity for each age and stage. Summary It’s now easier than ever to discover how you can do your part in Developing the Young Workforce by delivering activities that suit you, your business or organisation’s schedule.
