Looking at the Young Persons Guarantee

​Emma Duncan is aiming to double the number of Young Person’s Guarantee sign ups and is doing so by including Young Person’s Guarantee in all conversations with employers. When canvassing new employers, Emma is discussing how employers can engage with DYW by sending them the Young Person’s Guarantee proforma and explaining that by completing any of the 5 Asks of the Young Person’s Guarantee, they will be successfully supporting young people to reach positive destinations.

Emma Duncan is also working with Emma Lacey to create a Young Person’s Guarantee event in which every employer attending can learn more about DYW & Young Person’s Guarantee, as well as signing up to be a Young Person’s Guarantee employer.

Finally, Emma Duncan is encouraging employers who are already engaging with DYW to sign up to be a Young Person’s Guarantee employer to be recognized for the work they are already doing, and then supporting them to deliver even more fantastic activities with young people. 

Objectives:

• To increase the number of Young Person’s Guarantee employers
• To double the number of Young Person’s Guarantee employers that we currently have

Results:

We have successfully managed to increase the number of employers signed up to the Young Person’s Guarantee and saw the number of sign ups double in the first month of this initiative, a number constantly increasing.

Successes:

We have seen more employers than ever being recognized for the work they do and even more whose engagement with DYW has increased.

• Increased referrals to MCR Pathways, Career Ready, Edinburgh College, CEC JET Team, and SDS Apprenticeship Team.

​As this is a new approach, we are still in the early stages of progressing this. Perhaps on initial reflection, more time dedicated to this would help to allow us to reach more employers, and ultimately support more young people to be work ready.
