What is Innovation? How do you become an innovator? How does innovation fit within the Construction Industry?

Picture
Remember you can use the toolkit to work through the resources on these pages.
According to The Oxford Dictionary: "innovation (in something) is the introduction of new things, ideas, or ways of doing something... an age of technological innovation... The company is very interested in product design and innovation."

So how do you become an innovator? How does innovation fit within the Construction Industry?

Within this section our partners help you explore these questions.

Construction Scotland Innovation cENTRE (csic)

CSIC believes that we can support students’ futures by highlighting opportunities for them in the built environment.
"Young people have a unique opportunity to transform and modernise the construction industry. Our ability to innovate, create and collaborate is essential to tackle climate change and improve health and wellbeing through our built environment. There are roles for people with all types of skills, backgrounds, and ambitions. There has never been a more exciting time to pursue a career in construction."
Douglas Morrison, Director of Operations & Future Skills, CSIC
The aim of this activity pack is to provide teachers with short lesson inserts themed around the built environment and innovation. Each interactive activity will give the students the opportunity to learn more about the built environment, specifically the construction industry and hopefully offer an insight into jobs they may not have thought of, and enable them to discover new skills and interests.

Although this resource has been designed for educators, parents/carers supporting young people with options & choices or leaving school decisions may find this useful during homeschooling.
In this episode we explore what construction is and some of the pathways young people can access to enter the industry.

With an emphasis on desirable skills development, we also gain insight from individuals currently working at CITB (Construction Industry Training Board), Forth Valley College, Morrison Construction and Skills Development Scotland.

Discussion starters and activities to use with this film can be found in the Build Your Future Toolkit.
