Creating Great places for people, and the jobs that make it happen
Throughout this activity pack, we highlight different jobs - all of which play vital roles in creating great places for the people of Scotland and beyond. We also look at routes and pathways for such careers.
DYW worked alongside Scottish Futures Trust to create video content which brings construction careers to life. Content may be complemented by the addition of partner resources.
This pack provides links to video content, role profiles and further research activities. The role profiles come from many employers working in the sector.

Repurposing challenge
The Repurposing Challenge asks young people to identify a disused building in their local community and reimagine it for another use. It is made up of a series of 6 tasks facilitated by an educator or DYW School Coordinator, and mentor(s) from the construction sector.
The tasks can be delivered over six separate days or alternatively over two mornings or one full day. This will be identified in advance and can be set up to suit schools' and employers' availability.

Skills Demonstration
Skills demonstrations are mini workshops of different trades and are delivered by industry partners. Skills demonstrations typically have 3 to 6 trades/industry roles being demonstrated through workshops, and young people rotate round each of them. It is recommended that groups of 5 pupils attend each workshop at a time, and the workshops last 20 minutes each.
e.g., if 4 trades/industry roles are being demonstrated, it means the entire session lasts 80 minutes and can accommodate a group of 20 pupils. Multiple sessions can be run over the course of the school day so more young people can participate.
This pack provides an example itinerary and guidance on how to organise a skills demonstration in your school.
