Elma Murray, Vice-Chair of DYW Employers Forum In my work as Vice-Chair of the DYW Employers Forum and throughout my career in public service, I’ve met countless people who didn’t follow a straight or expected route. And that includes myself. Many experienced setbacks, changed directions, discovered unexpected interests, or took time to find their way. Those paths are just as valuable – often more so – because they build confidence, self-awareness, and adaptability. That’s what the #NoWrongPath campaign celebrates: the real, human journeys behind every career. It exists to show young people that the world of work is full of possibilities and that those possibilities are open to everyone, no matter their background, their grades, or the path they take to get there. This year, Skills Development Scotland is once again running their excellent Results Helpline, where trained advisors are ready to help young people talk through their options, whether they’re thinking about work, training, college, university or something different. If you’re feeling uncertain, I strongly encourage you to make that call. There is support out there and people who believe in you. We also know how important it is that employers are part of this journey. DYW works closely with businesses across Scotland to connect them with schools and colleges. This work is about more than placements or programmes; it’s about building confidence, showcasing career possibilities, and helping young people gain real-life insight into the skills employers need. And for employers to hear about the amazing skills young people have and what they can bring to the workplace. DYW sits at the heart of Scotland’s career and skills system, working in collaboration with partners like SDS, colleges, and local authorities. But our key partnership is with the employers who step forward to open doors, offer encouragement, and help shape the future workforce. So today, to every young person: your results do not define your future. You have time. You have support. You have something unique to offer. And to every employer: now is the time to get involved. Support a school. Offer a placement. Share your story. Let’s show young people across Scotland that there are many routes to success – and every one of them matters.
