But how do we ignite that spark of interest in young people early on, showing them the breadth of opportunity and the meaningful impact they can make? One answer lies in immersive, large-scale events that bring the world of healthcare directly to them. NHS Health and Care at Work: A Day of Discovery On 19th June 2025, over 400 young people from across Forth Valley came together for an inspiring NHS Health and Care at Work event. Designed to open minds and raise aspirations, the event offered a unique opportunity for pupils to explore the vast and varied careers within the health and social care sector. Hosted in partnership with NHS Forth Valley, the day featured hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and interactive stands representing key departments—including Mental Health, Emergency Services, and Allied Health Professions. Young people engaged directly with local healthcare professionals, gaining real insight into the roles, responsibilities, and values that underpin the sector. This wasn’t just a careers fair—it was a powerful experience that helped demystify what working in health and care looks like, while highlighting the human skills, dedication, and teamwork that are vital to success. Why This Matters: The Local and National Picture
Across the UK, the NHS remains one of the largest employers, with over 1.3 million staff. Closer to home, NHS Forth Valley employs more than 5,500 people across hospitals, community teams, and specialist services. The demand for new talent is growing—particularly in nursing, allied health, mental health, and support roles. Events like this one are crucial. They don’t just inform—they inspire. They help students see the human side of healthcare, understand the pathways available, and recognise how their strengths—whether it's empathy, critical thinking, or problem-solving—can be used in a meaningful career. Building a Workforce with Purpose Events like the NHS Health and Care at Work day do more than tick a careers guidance box—they build bridges between young people and the world of work, offering a real sense of purpose, belonging, and ambition. If you’re an employer, educator, or careers practitioner looking to shape the next generation of health and care professionals, this is your call to action:
Because when we connect young people with opportunities that matter, we’re not just filling roles—we’re nurturing futures that care. Comments are closed.
